Breast Augmentation (implants and others)

Breast Augmentation is also called ‘Boob job’ by patients and includes the use of implants, fat and surgical techniques to increase the size of the breast, this may be combined with procedures to decrease the sag /drop of the breast and improve the breast shape and size symmetry .The surgery increases fullness and projection of the breast, improves balance and symmetry with the hip and improves self confidence

Who is a good candidate for surgery?

Remember that this is a personal choice and your expectations and understanding are important.

You are a good candidate for breast augmentation if

You are physically healthy and are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Have realistic expectations from the procedure

You feel that there is asymmetry/droop/abnormal shape or symmetry in the breast

How to prepare for the surgery.

Dr Aditya shall discuss your past medical history in detail to determine your candidacy for the procedure. The procedure shall be explained to you in detail.

Doctor shall discuss the following:

  • Breast Augmentation surgery options.

How is the Surgery done?

Types of implants: There are many types of Implants in the market, from saline implants to silicone implants and others

Discuss with Dr Aditya about the advantages and disadvantages of each, and the one that will fit you best

Whichever implant you do choose please monitor them regularly (ask your surgeon how) and followup with the surgeon for appropriate check up

  • The procedure is usually done under local anesthesia and sedation or under General Anesthesia.

Steps of the Procedure:

Incision/cut is made in areas that is not easily visible to decrease visible scarring .Discuss the location of the incision with Dr Aditya (around the edge of the areola, under the breast or in the armpit)

The breast implant is then put into the pocket either under or over the chest muscles (pectoral muscles) .This depends on the type of implant, your body type, size of implant and your surgeon’s recommendation. The cuts are then closed with sutures or tape. These scars fade over time dependent on factors such as infection, smoking, and your genetics

Time to Operate:

  • This depends on the surgeon and individual candidate. However, the average time taken to operate both sides is about 2-2.5 hours

Complications and Risks:

Anesthetic risks

After the surgery, some patients may temporarily have Pain, swelling, bruising and discharge

Care after the Procedure

After the surgery the breasts will be wrapped in gauze dressing and elastic bandage or personalized pressure garments to decrease the swelling and support healing

Upon discharge you will be given specific instructions for painkillers, antibiotic usage, dressing, pressure garments and a follow up appointment
